about
Sem;colon (Semicolon), is a part of #TheHumanExperience. This project was started as a way to show that anyone deserves to have a song written about them. New songs will be added on a semi-regular basis, as I conduct more interviews with fans like you.
Sem;colon is dedicated to the deceased friend of a stranger I met around a campfire. I met this stranger by chance, while playing some songs on the acoustic guitar. He was moved by the way I was using my guitar to tell the story of people in hopeless situations - yet the song itself carried hope within it. He asked me to write his friend a song, a memorial, to pass on the story of how his life ended.
His friend had taken his life, an act that came from out of the blue. There was no warning, and his friend had been the pillar of strength among their friend group. I could see how much grief was in this man's heart, as he recanted the beautiful story of his friends life. He then showed me a tattoo on his wrist, a semicolon to be specific. His friend may be gone from this world, but his memory and energy continues to give support to those he had loved in life.
If you, or someone you know, is having suicidal thoughts - please consider stoping by "Cope Notes" or calling a help hotline. I am not affiliated with Cope Notes, but I support their platform without hesitation. They can send you random messages, on a regular basis, in an effort to give you continued mental health support. What makes it even better, is the people behind these messages have an understanding of what it's like to walk in your shoes.
lyrics
Sitting back, looking at - how - things - change
Time has its way, nothing can stay
You were here, disappeared - lost - in - pain
I wasted days, no words to say
Because when the pain enters
I feel a little numb
When I look in the mirror
I hate what I've become
Everyday I ask myself
Just what I could've done
Because when you took your life
You were to fucking young
You're my semicolon
A memory that, I'm holding
You're my semicolon
For when it gets, cold again
You're my semicolon
A tattoo that's, on my wrist
You're my semicolon
To remind me, of all this
Met this guy, round a fire, talked - till - midnight
Tears on my face, left in your place
Told him all, bout your life, you - were - my light
Dreams you chased, now gone to waste
Asked him to write you a song
Something to pass along
To help some kid in your shoes
And give this pain a use
Encased in rhythm and song
Your energy lives on
Because when you took your life
You were to fucking young
You're my semicolon
A memory that, I'm holding
You're my semicolon
For when it gets, cold again
You're my semicolon
A tattoo that's, on my wrist
You're my semicolon
To remind me, of all this
